Think about something you’d like to bring up with your spouse. Keep it focused. Think of the details you want to include and those you should leave out. Try to name what you are feeling around the issue.

  • Receiver: Listen. Mirror. Validate. Empathize.
  • Sender: Share. Confirm or clarify what the Receiver understands. Wrap up.

Start with something easy and not too frustrating. Remember, this may feel unnatural at first.  But if you practice this technique, it will be a helpful tool to feel heard and seen when you want to discuss something difficult in your relationship.
