The tuna can has a strong odor that can permeate the entire kitchen, so just wash the can before throwing it out. That might be obvious to some, and not to others.
If that is something you want in your home, just ask. Don’t assume that others should just know to do that.
The same idea holds true for many other things at home. No, it is not obvious what needs to be done. No, your spouse (and children) cannot just see it. You might expect that they should. But that just leads to disappointment and frustration.
Ask, don’t hint or wish (or nag). Explain your rationale. Be flexible in how it is done. And you will probably find that the others are willing and able to pitch in.
