Say something nice about your spouse’s family.

Your spouse did spend their growing years with their family. The family will forever be dear to them. Too often, people disparage their spouse’s family. Not a good idea.

Don’t put them in the uncomfortable position of having to choose allegiances between their spouse and their family.

You don’t have to love them all, but you should care and respect them, even if you don’t agree with them.

You can find at least one nice thing to say. But find more. And share it out loud.

“I so admire your father’s way of diffusing a tense situation with a joke.”

“It’s so great how your mother spoils out kids.”

“I so appreciate that your brother comes over to help with fixing things around here.”

“I love talking to your sister. She is so wise about so many things.”
