Words to Use: “Do you want to work on this with me?”

You might use these words when there is something you want to improve for yourself and for the relationship or family.  “I’ve been thinking about our finances.” “I’ve been thinking about how we are parenting our child.”  And then “Do you want to work on this with me?”

Making it a question gives the other person the power and invites them into the conversation rather than telling them this is something they need to do.

Ask instead of tell. Questions generate a two-way communication loop that gives everyone a voice; everyone feels seen, heard and valued. Such two-way communication increases ownership and helps generate better thoughts and ideas overall.</speak>
