Words to Use: “What do you need from me?”

When your spouse has shared a vulnerability, fear or dream, ask with genuine concern: “What do you need from me?” They may need support, reassurance, or a good cry. They may just want a listening ear.

They may want you to try to come up with a solution. Or to work on one together.

They may ask for forgiveness or for you to own up to what you did.

They may want space or time to figure things on their own.

As possible and reasonable, try to give them what they want. Do not promise something that you don’t expect to actually do.
