There’s only one way to change: slowly, over time. While we may be anxious to be on the other side of the change, it just doesn’t happen that way. It can be frustrating, but once we recognize that there are no shortcuts, that it will take time and there will be setbacks, we become more accepting of the slow change process.
The habit and the patterns have been around for a while. It took time for the issue to become entrenched. And it takes time to unlearn and do things differently.
Be patient with your progress and track your positives. No matter how small. We tend to be more focused on negatives and sometimes we minimize the positive – especially when we are feeling despair, stressed, or anxious. Keep a record of even the smallest steps toward the change. Celebrate the progress. This can be an encouragement and keep up your motivation and momentum. (The Progress Principle)
