The 5 Second Rule (developed by Mel Robbins): The moment you feel yourself hesitate on something you know you should do, count 5-4-3-2-1 and then just do it.
The premise is that if you don’t move in the first five seconds, your mental habits of overthinking, doubt and fear will take over. Those thoughts then kill your instinct to step outside your comfort zone, make the change, do whatever it is you really want to do.
The counting will help you focus on the goal or commitment and distract you from the worries, thoughts, and fears in your mind. When you silently count down from five, your brain knows something needs to happen after one; it’s the universal cue to act.
