It is just too hard for most of us to make major changes. We would work better by making tiny microgoals that are achievable.
Start off with a very small microgoal whose bar is very very low. Something you know you can actually do. In this way, you check off the box in the short-term future. This gives you the willpower and energy to continue.
When that has become a consistent habit, raise the bar just a drop more, add another microgoal, and accomplish that one. The momentum grows.
Work through each one. One at a time. Conquer the first, then bring on the next. And the next.
Slow but steady. You can do it. In the end, you’ll achieve that major goal. And it will (likely) stick, because you’ve built some good habits along the way.
