The pause creates distance to think more clearly.
When something goes wrong—or just doesn’t go as planned—pausing to notice the funny, absurd, or slightly ridiculous side of it is a powerful move. That pause gives you a little space from the emotions of the moment.
It’s in that space that you shift into observer mode, noticing the irony, the “of course this would happen now” quality, or the small, absurd details that might make you smile or chuckle. That distance helps move you out of automatic, intense emotional reactions and into clearer thinking, where you can respond more skillfully.
Next time something happens, try asking yourself: “What are some of the funnies I can notice here?”
