If negative thoughts are bad, why do we do it?

Negative thoughts about the past are not helpful and yet sometimes we indulge in them anyway. Sometimes, we would rather wallow in these despairing thoughts instead of trying to resolve the issue. It just seems easier and more comfortable to cry and kvetch than put in the work to make the change.

It takes time to kvetch and complain. And it takes time to think about productive solutions. Obviously, it is a more productive use of time and energy to think about solutions. Simple, but not easy.

Sometimes, it is worthwhile to bring in the help and support of a friend or professional to work through the challenge. It is so so so much harder to do it on your own.
