Giving is what brings us true happiness. It’s in our Torah teachings. It is proven in studies. And when we are honest with ourselves, we know from our own lives.
Yet, in this upside down world that we live in, somehow, some of us live as if our happiness is dependent on other people loving and giving to us. And we feel hurt when we don’t receive the expected love.
In truth, we function most powerfully, when we are giving love, or actually loving (as a verb).
That is not to say that we ought to just be happy even if we are not the recipient of another’s giving and loving. If everyone just focused more on being givers and less on “what I’m not getting”, this world would be tilted back to the way it was designed.
