Emotions are an opportunity to understand ourselves better. Emotions give us information that is impossible to perceive in any other way.
Our emotions give us clues about our physical and emotional well-being. They give us a sense of preferences. They help provide motivation. They help us spot problems before they happen.
Feeling excited and energized doing a certain activity might be telling you that this may be a good hobby or even job choice.
Feeling on edge or anxious when talking to someone is giving you information about how much to trust this person.
Your anger may be telling you that a value of yours is not being addressed.
Every emotion is telling us something. But, we cannot utilize information that we are pushing away, ignoring, or numbing out.
(The emotions are telling us something, then we need our cognitive skills to understand what to do with that new information and work it out.)
