For some people, sharing positive emotions takes vulnerability and courage too.
Sometimes, we are uncomfortable expressing gratitude, appreciation or compliments because we’re not sure how to go about doing so. We struggle for the right words to express our feelings. We are concerned about how our words or actions will be received. And then somehow in the end, we don’t express it at all.
You don’t have to get it just right. The other person will appreciate your sincerity and warmth much more than the perfect words.
Other times, we might find it hard to express gratitude because it feels like an admission of need and dependence. And for some people that feels uncomfortable.
Relationships thrive on giving to and receiving from each other. That means sometimes receiving and sometimes giving. And being comfortable in either position. Even if we are uncomfortable receiving help (for now), it is still important to thank the people who give to us.
