The same idea holds true for many other things at home. No, it is not obvious what needs to be done. No, your spouse (and children) cannot just see it. You might expect that they should. But that just leads to disappointment and frustration.

Ask, don’t hint or wish (or nag). Explain your rationale. Be flexible in how it is done. And you will probably find that the others are willing and able to pitch in.
