How to get across the very narrow bridge

Rabbi Nachman of Breslov’s famous quote, כל העולם כולו גשר צר מאוד והעיקר לא לפחד כלל “The whole world is a very narrow bridge and the main thing is to have no fear at all” is a profound philosophy for life.

So much of life can feel like a narrow bridge over a deep ravine – with the daunting possibility of falling. It can be quite frightening.

There is so much that we can fear in life: fear of loss, fear of being judged, fear of rejection, fear of disappointment, fear of failure.

Act despite the very real fear.

This does not mean pretending that fear doesn’t exist. It’s acknowledging, understanding and accepting that your fears are there (though often unfounded). It is about paying attention to what you know, and working with what is, instead of worrying about what if. It is about being courageous in the face of the fear.
