“Self-full”: the balance between selfish and selfless.

In these stressful times, make sure to schedule some time for your own self-care. It is important to strike a healthy balance between taking care of only yourself (selfish) and always taking care of others (selfless). Tal Ben Shahar calls this ‘self full”.

By dedicating time to nurture your own happiness and well-being, you equip yourself to be more generous and giving to others. The happiness that comes from some self-care sets in motion a positive cycle in which your personal happiness enhances your capacity for generosity, and in turn, your acts of kindness further elevate your happiness.

Not all your happiness should stem from giving. It’s crucial to prioritize activities and experiences that bring you joy and fulfillment. Whether it involves spending quality time with family and friends, immersing yourself in enjoyable hobbies like dancing and music, or embarking on a journey of profound learning and personal growth, these are all essential elements in the pursuit of happiness.

In essence, being “self-full” encapsulates the idea that actively pursuing your happiness can radiate kindness and goodness, creating an interconnected web of empathy that benefits not only yourself but the broader community you’re a part of.
