When it comes to money and relationships, there’s no one right way.

As a couple, talk about money. Even if it is uncomfortable (at first). Talk about what money means to each of you (are you a saver/ spender and what might be the reasons you choose that style).   Talk about your life goals and how money may play into that (do you want to pay down debt quickly, do you want to purchase a home, etc.) Talk about your spending habits (what do you spend on, what is a realistic spending plan correlating with the money coming in).

Recognize that there will be differences in perspectives and habits. There isn’t a perfect formula that any couple can follow. This will be as individual as the couple.

Don’t let your discomfort around money stop you from these important conversations.
